Dr. Schemenauer teaches the Catholic Social Ethics and Fundamental Moral Theology courses at Saint Meinrad. His research focuses on Catholic social ethics, family ethics, and the writings of Dietrich von Hildebrand.
In 2024, he published The Family as Basic Social Unit: Living Catholic Social Teaching with The Catholic University of America Press. In this work, he provides a theological analysis of the family’s social character and reflects on how to apply Catholic social teaching to family community. He also published Conjugal Love and Procreation: Dietrich von Hildebrand's Superabundant Integration in 2011, in which he explores Hildebrand’s early articulation of the two ends of marriage.
He is currently working on a companion book to Dietrich von Hildebrand’s Transformation in Christ. The goal is to help people read more deeply from this profound work. In addition to his teaching and research, Dr. Schemenauer has given a number of parish talks related to Catholic social ethics, family ethics, and medical ethics.
Prior to joining the faculty at Saint Meinrad in 2013, he served as a faculty member at Marian University in Indianapolis, Indiana for five years. He and his wife Frances have four children.
