Acquisitions, Circulation & Periodicals Librarian

The Archabbey Library has an opening for a full-time Acquisitions, Circulation and Periodicals Librarian. This individual will handle cataloging using the library's online automated system, maintain the patron database, and manage day-to-day activities related to the Archabbey Library's collections of print and electronic magazines and journals.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Acquisitions: Orders books, DVDs, CDs, etc. for the library collection. The acquisitions process includes searching for resources in order to place orders and entering and tracking data within an automated acquisition environment. Responsibilities include: corresponding with publishers, vendors, bookstores and agencies in regards to purchase orders, invoices and payments; submitting invoices received from suppliers to the Business Office for payment; and recording acquisitions using the automated library management system. The Acquisitions Librarian position involves basic cataloging using the library’s online automated system to edit, add, and delete records necessary for updating the library database.

Circulation: Maintains patron database in the library’s automated online collection management system, adding and deleting patrons as needed and corresponding with library patrons about library accounts. Other functions include: inventory control for library holdings and correcting catalog records as needed; setting up and maintaining course-reserve selves; generating circulation reports; and staffing the Circulation Desk as needed.

Periodicals: Manages day-to-day activities concerned with Archabbey Library’s collection of magazines and journals. This includes: daily check-in and recording of books and magazines, collecting serials for bindery and maintaining records for serials costs, maintaining the display of current periodicals, and moving current periodicals to archives as needed. The Periodicals Librarian also helps patrons requiring assistance with the periodical collection.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Excellent customer service and hospitality skills, as well as computer skills (Excel and Word).
  • Must have ability to learn to use circulation, cataloging, and periodicals modules of WorldShare Management System.
  • Must learn library system of classifications.
