Part-Time Security Guard

Introduction

Saint Meinrad Archabbey is seeking a part-time Security Guard. The part-time position schedule is typically Sunday and Saturday (3 to 11 p.m.) every other week, as well as every other Tuesday 3 to 11 p.m. There would be opportunities to fill in for other shifts and cover vacation and holiday absences.



Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for cleanliness and upkeep of Archabbey security vehicle.
  • Patrol premises on foot and in security vehicle to ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
  • Validate about 75 location “buttons” during each shift.
  • Receive and transfer incoming calls when the switchboard isn’t operational.
  • Lock and/or unlock areas per authorized
  • Assist with snow and ice removal and applying ice melt at assigned locations.
  • Assist in emergency situations with clean-up and debris removal.
  • Respond to First Alert calls. Call out fire department and/or 911 in cases of emergency.
  • Investigate disturbances. Warn persons of rule infractions/violations. Detain and call State Police/sheriff when deemed necessary.
  • Be available to offer assistance to guests, students, monks, and other co-workers.
  • May perform janitorial duties as needed (housekeeping, trash pickup, deliveries, etc.).
  • Write/log reports of irregularities.
  • Monitor parking violations, write parking tickets.
  • Provide fire extinguisher checks and safety information as required by safety office.
  • Fuel Abbey vehicles, check tires/fluids, 1-3 hours per daily list. Wash & polish per request.
  • Once a month, security is responsible for cleaning electronic exterior locks.
  • Will perform other duties as requested.


Experience & Qualifications

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Reading, report writing, driving, and communication through radio/phone, cell phone and digital paging equipment or personal contact.
  • Ability to handle difficult people with prudence, confront suspected criminal activity with discretion.
  • Walks an average of 3-4 miles per shift. In and out of vehicles about 25 times per shift.
  • Ability to remember and express details (written and/or orally).
  • Able to make decisions independently with little or no direction.
