The suffering of Jesus is a theme running throughout the Gospel of Mark. Clearly it is centered on Jesus’ crucifixion. However, Jesus encounters suffering before he reaches the cross. Seldom are these other experiences of suffering given much attention. This retreat will focus on what I will refer to as Jesus’ experiences of suffering beyond the cross.
