In the summer of 2022, Pope Francis spoke about the need for Christians to take better care of those impoverished by physical and mental diminishment. Too often the sick, the very elderly, the homeless, the powerless are relegated to the margins of society and “fall off our radar of concern.” This is a sin, insists Pope Francis, and we need to listen to what “the least among us” are teaching us about Jesus and about redemptive suffering. Retreat conferences will explore how to emulate Christ, no matter our social and economic status, by identifying with the least among us, whom Jesus commands us to love as extensions of self.
