Saint Meinrad is hosting unstructured, subsidized cost retreats for young adults, ages 18-35, for $50. The cost includes a guest room and all meals.
These retreats are designed to give young adults the opportunity to spend a weekend at Saint Meinrad in prayer, rest, contemplation, and leisure – as well as the opportunity to meet other young adults on retreat. The retreats are guided by Fr. Simon Herrmann, OSB, who will be available for one on one meetings. Depending on the size of the retreat, other monks will be available for one-on-one meetings, too. The young adults also have the opportunity to pray with the monks (whose liturgies are always open to the public!).
Otherwise, there are no formal conferences for the young adults. Fr. Simon shares, “In creating these retreats, we thought it would be best to have the structure be “unprogrammed” since we are already overprogrammed in life as is. So, the $50 weekend, which includes housing and meals, is an opportunity for young adults to step away from the normal day-to-day of life and enter into the sacred space of Saint Meinrad.
Many young adults who have attended these retreats in the past bring a Bible, a spiritual book or two, a journal, their running or hiking shoes, and their disc golf discs (we have a disc golf course at Saint Meinrad). One last thing Fr. Simon encourages young adults to bring: an open heart.

When registering online, please indicate in the Notes field which meals you would like for the retreat. This helps us prepare enough meals as well as reduce cost if you are arriving late or leaving early. Most young adult retreatants, if they are able to arrive in time, sign up for dinner on Friday (dinner is from 5:30 to 6:15 pm central time), all meals on Saturday, and breakfast and lunch on Sunday. If you would like all the meals, simply write “all meals”, otherwise please clarify which meals you would like and let us know of any dietary restrictions.
If you have additional questions, please contact the Director of Young Adult Engagement, Fr. Simon Herrmann, OSB, at yae@saintmeinrad.edu.
