Weather and time have taken a toll on Monte Cassino Shrine. However, a generous benefactor led the effort to stabilize the aging sandstone structure, beautify the grounds, and make needed repairs and improvements.
The project was conducted in several phases during 2016 and 2017. Work to reinforce and stabilize the building and tuck point the exterior was completed in 2016.
Because the chapel was not air conditioned or ventilated, a heating, ventilation and air conditioning system was installed. This will keep the painted walls, woodwork and artwork from deteriorating. Better lighting also was added.
Among the other improvements were: new landscaping, a pathway leading to a new prayer garden, and a sandstone piazza with benches.
You can view a video about the project here.
You're invited to join the restoration project by making a gift or reserving a brick paver that will be installed near the prayer garden at Monte Cassino Shrine.
An inscribed brick paver is a special way to honor a loved one or commemorate a special occasion, such as a birthday or anniversary.
A 4" by 8" brick paver can be reserved with a gift of $200. The paver has three lines for your inscription, with up to 16 characters per line, including spaces and punctuation. All messages are subject to approval by Saint Meinrad.
