The Saint Meinrad Institute for Sacred Music will host a summer chant workshop on July 21-25, 2025, at Saint Meinrad.
The Summer Chant Workshop: Notation and Interpretation will be co-led by Dr. Rosemary Heredos, Br. John Glasenapp, OSB, and Br. Joel Blaize, OSB. It will focus on chant notation and semiological interpretation.
This workshop is designed for directors of liturgical music and singers in parish liturgies who have some background in music. Sessions during the week will focus on how to read the earliest sources of chant and interpret their notation. Daily rehearsals will cover the differences in singing chant from other styles of sacred music. Participants will also be introduced to the church modes and how and why the melodies take the shape they do. These insights will allow participants to uncover the spiritual meaning of chant and sing with a better understanding and intention.
The workshop fee is $900 for single registration and $1,050 for a double. Accommodations and meals are included. The commuter rate is $300.
There is an option for early arrival (Sunday, July 20) with private instruction (Sunday and Monday morning before the workshop begins). Two one-hour private lessons with Dr. Heredos are available for an additional $300, and two half-hour private lessons with Dr. Heredos are available for an additional $250. The additional fee includes both lessons, additional meals, and an extra night of accommodation. This workshop can be taken for credit through the Saint Meinrad School of Theology.
